This article addresses the issue of Swiftify’s Xcode extension going missing from the Editor menu. If you're facing the same problem with the Finder extension, then this article should also have you covered as troubleshooting both problems is quite similar.
Before starting troubleshooting, please make sure that you:
- have a project open in Xcode,
- have a text file open in Xcode (not Storyboards, assets, etc.),
- are looking for "Swiftify" under the Editor menu and not the Edit menu.
If you still can't find the extension, check out the following list of possible causes for this problem with a description for troubleshooting each issue afterward:
- Swiftify extension is disabled from System Preferences.
- Swiftify extension is missing from System Preferences.
- Xcode Source Editor is missing from System Preferences.
- Broken Spotlight Search.
- Issues with the hard drive.
Swiftify extension is disabled from System Preferences
If the Editor -> Swiftify menu has disappeared from Xcode, the first thing to look at is whether Swiftify is checked in the System Preferences -> Extensions dialog:
Swiftify extension is missing from System Preferences
If the Swiftify extension is not listed, move Swiftify for Xcode from the Applications folder to Trash and reinstall Swiftify for Xcode from the AppStore.
Xcode Source Editor is missing from System Preferences
If the Xcode Source Editor item is completely missing from the left pane (see image above), this is most likely due to a corrupt installation of Xcode itself. The best suggestion here is to move Xcode from the Applications folder to Trash and reinstall Xcode from the AppStore.
Broken Spotlight Search
Check out this article on how to fix your Spotlight search. Please read the whole article before following it to get an idea of any side effects that may arise.
Fixing the broken Spotlight search or hard drive (check the paragraph below) may help with the indexing of extensions and therefore getting them to appear in System Preferences, Xcode and/or Finder.
Issues with the hard drive
Troubleshooting this issue is included in the same article found in the paragraph above (Broken Spotlight Search).
Broken hard drive permissions may also be the reason why the extension is missing and thus it is always helpful to run Disk Utility diagnostics.
If the issue persists, please don't hesitate to contact us.
